Satin Stitch, pillow forts and sleeping cats

I am really out of practice with this, as you can probably tell...
But I'm committed( ha! I know some of you are laughing at me!) to getting some of my UFO's done and outta here!

It's really fun to take all the pillows in the house and make a fort... Just ask Captain Skye!

Cats will sleep anywhere... even while you are boxing things and vacuuming! I only had to pull him out of the boxes twice....

The Return of the Sprites...

I have been making these little sprites for years....
I love the pattern and have made them in all sizes, including one three foot tall one for DD # 2...
So I dusted out the pattern and made some Valentine babies...
One went to my friend Leslie in colorado , and the other of course went right to the Skye Girl....

More Stash and Dash Bags

I did it... I made more...
They do go together really fast... and they are cute.....
This set was for my SIL Kerry's friend Raelyn... she liked them lots! I may even have to break down and make myself a set....

Jam jam jam jam, jam jam jam

Sorry that was Spam... no really... I made jam!
Spicy Tomato, Red Onion POMEGRANATE Jam!!!!
It's my new alternative to Ketchup....
I even made pretty labels. Not exactly what I wanted, but for crying out loud, they are just labels and they'll have to get washed off anyway!

Headbands

I made a whole bunch... they went together very easy, thanks to The Long Thread saving me again form searching endlessly for a simple pattern, that and lazy me, I didn't want to draft one myself. I am worried that the fit will be a bit small for some Turkan girls, but missy Skye Girl fits just perfect!

Enchanting

My buddy Tristan is having a very generous giveaway on his blog....
So hop on over and take a look. He does the most divine art, with paper and fabric. His posts are visually rich, his taste impeccable, and his whit is sharp if not a bit twisted. Are you getting the impression that I like it? I know you will too.

The photo is from a recent post, a Marie Antoinette Valentine found on Photo bucket and posted by ErikaMySpace2008

Sweet potato and Butternut soup!

It's a pretty basic soup base...
Good for the nice crisp weather of late fall and the very best in the cold of winter!

2 onions, chopped, and sauteed in butter and olive oil
Once the onions are transparent, add four or five cloves of fresh chopped garlic
Add:
2 medium potatoes, peeled and chopped
1 medium butternut squash, peeled and chopped
1 largish sweet potato, peeled and chopped
Add:
Boiling water to cover
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon Black pepper
1 teaspoon dry basil
1/2 teaspoon cumin
other herbs to taste (thyme, oregano, bay leaf)
Chicken or Vegetable stock, one of those containers or a can (about 12 ounces).
Light or heavy cream can be added once you have the heat off, (about 8 ounces).

Simmer the veggies, until the potatoes are tender.

I use a hand held wand blender, and just carefully mix right in the stock pot. You can also use a blender.

I like to put creme fresh, or yogurt in a little circle around the bowl. A little trick I learned form my daughter, who makes a garlic soup that is a pain in the ass to make but taste like it was dropped straight from the kitchens of heaven!
